Having photographed the CCTV development in Beijing over the past few years, it was wrenching to see TVCC engulfed in flames after a wayward firework set it alight. Ironically, the fireworks display, part of the final celebrations of Chinese New Year, was organised by a CCTV employee.

TVCC, at 31 stories, was the smaller of the two buildings on the site. Both interior and exterior were severely damaged in the blaze. The adjacent CCTV tower, known by locals as Big Shorts, escaped unscathed.
