High Wise

A few days ago in a lavish ceremony in Frankfurt, the winners of the 4th International Highrise Award were announced. From a shortlist of five projects from around the world, the top honour was bestowed upon The Met in Bangkok, designed by Singapore’s WOHA.

Among the shortlisted projects were Shanghai World Financial Centre by Kohn Pedersen Fox

and the Skidmore Owings & Merrill’s Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

At the ceremony, Burj Khalifa received a special commendation for technological innovation.

Chip Off the Old Block

In Shanghai, Pelli Clarke Pelli’s International Finance Centre consisting of two higher towers, a smaller block of serviced apartments and a large retail mall, is nearing completion. The vertical planes of the taller towers, at 250m and 260m high, have been bevelled away creating a dynamic and ever-changing silhouette against the SWFC and Jin Mao towers to the east.
